The Sierra Valley remains one of the truly undiscovered treasures of California. Nearly as large as Lake Tahoe and ringed by mountains, the Sierra Valley is home to the towns of Beckwourth, Calpine, Chilcoot, Loyalton, Sattley, Sierraville and Vinton, and thousands of acres of ranchland in between.
The headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Feather River are found in this stunning mountain meadow along with a rich diversity of wildlife and migratory birds who stop over in the fall and nest in the spring. Meandering streams wend through the valley, creating habitat for shorebirds and waterfowl in lush stands of cattails and bulrushes.
Each of the small towns of the Sierra Valley has its distinct charm. Sierraville and Loyalton lie on the southern end of the valley, Sattley and Calpine lie on the southwestern edge, and Beckwourth, Chilcoot and Vinton mark the northern periphery. These towns offer a mix of custom single-family homes, manufactured homes and lots. Expansive ranch properties can be found on the outskirts of each of these towns and the interior of the valley.
Access Sierra Valley via Highway 49 (Sierraville, Loyalton), Highway 89 (Sattley, Calpine) or Highway 70 (Beckwourth, Chilcoot and Vinton).
